How to Know When Your Training Routine Isn’t Working Anymore

bodybuilding-Training Routine

It is no surprise how beneficial working out can be to your body and health overall. However, there comes a certain point where your body stops producing the results that you want to see. The sad truth behind this fact is that this is when most people turn away from exercising because they see that nothing is happening. However, whether you believe it or not, this is how you know when you need to switch up your workout routine.

When this happens, it means that your body has grown accustomed to the exercises being done to the body and now need more of a workload. So, with that said, here are three ways to know when your training routine is not working for you anymore and there is a need for a change in your training.

#1: You are not making it fun for yourself

Think of exercise as a job, which for some it is. If you absolutely dread going to work every day, where you are just bored out of your mind and putting in minimal effort in return for a minimal payoff, what is the likely hood of you keeping that job? The same can be said for exercise, do not make it something you feel you have to do rather something you look forward to doing. You need to find a way to make it fun, this way you are constantly going to see results because you are constantly working on getting those results.

In other words, you need to seek enjoyment instead of boredom within your activities. For example, if you are accustomed to going mountain biking, you should take a stab at spinning. It appears a similar kind of activity, but the truth is, it offers diversity. Another similar example could be to pick an exercise bike stand instead of a stationary bike to see which offers better results to you.

There are plenty of ways to make exercising more fun. The bottom line is, you have to make exercise fun by trying new things, which translates well into the next reason your workout might not be working.

#2: You are not changing it up

The human body is capable of many amazing feats; it is basically a working machine the way it functions. One of those feats is the ability to adapt quickly and efficiently. Having said that, with any exercise that you are doing, it is important to keep the body working and not have it stabilize and adapt to a certain workout. When the body stabilizes is when the results will stop showing, and we all do not want that to happen right?

Here is a good example: you are a weightlifter who can lift exactly 200 lbs, and you see all kinds of gains from lifting 200 lbs every day for a couple of months. Eventually lifting that weight will become so easy to lift that your body will stop producing the results necessary to lift that weight. Your body will have already become accustomed to lifting those 200 lbs. That is when you know your routine is not working anymore.

There are many other examples like this; the point is to just constantly switch your exercise routine up on your body so that it does not become accustomed to any specific workouts. If you want more ways to help switch up your routine, you should check the internet. There are plenty of websites that offer multiple tips.

#3: Your eating habits are still the same

We all know how good that pizza or burger can be after a long hard workout. People even say that a good workout makes you hungry. However, if you have tried changing your routine to fit the strategies of numbers one and two on this list, it might be that your eating habits are still the same. Despite some beliefs, eating is, in fact, a very important part of your training routine that can stop working for you.

This goes for both healthy and unhealthy eaters. For unhealthy eaters, there are more obvious ways to know your eating is not working for the better, such as eating greasy foods, sweets, and also limiting your eating portions. On the other hand, for more healthy eaters, knowing when your eating is or is not working for you can be a little trickier. There are examples of people eating healthy and working out but still not seeing the results that you want.

With that said, general advice for both types of eaters is to be consistent with what you put in your body and treat it like you would your exercise. Switch up meals so that your body can take in all of the benefits from different types of healthy foods. Shannon Rosenburg of Buzzfeed.com added a list on how to change your eating habits for your well being.

Final Words

Exercising is an important part of our lives because it can bring many benefits to all parts of it, whether they be social or health wise. However, knowing when to switch it up is important because it can keep us from not seeing results to ultimately giving up. Just remember to follow these three tips on how to recognize when to switch up your routine, so it is always working for you.

Also, remember that you have to be patient and consistent in order to get that dream body you have always wanted. Ultimately, know that when you look good, you feel good, and when you feel good, you are always going to be happy.
