My passion is Brazilian Jiujitsu. I’ve been training since 1996 and will probably train as long as I am breathing. But as much as I love to train, my work schedule and family time takes precedence. This makes it very difficult for an aging 43 year old black belt to walk on to the mat and train with younger, stronger and faster training partners. With age and time against me and no training partner at home, I figured the only thing I could really control was my cardio and strength. So I started working out to supplement my jiujitsu training or lack of.
My main source of motivation is my wife, coach and workout partner, Chics Esteban! I love the fact that we work together towards a common goal. Like the Bible says in Ecclesiastes 4: 9-10 Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: 10 If either of them falls down,
one can help the other up.
I also lean on my accountability friends at Team Edge Fitness (www.facebook.com/estebanedge247) and Tania’s Team Machine.
I work out 5-7 a week depending on the exercise challenge program. For 21 Day Fix Extreme, I was working out 7 Days a week for 21 days. For Max 30 and P90, I was working out 5-6 Days a week. Each of the workouts were between 25-40 minutes long.
My Routine depends on the workout program but for the most part we workout Monday – Friday at 5:30 am. Saturday and Sunday are usually rest days unless we miss a day during the week. I also try to train jiujitsu @ Coastal BJJ 2x’s a week.
I drink Chocolate Shakeology with Coffee and PB2 every single day. The best time for me to drink that is right after our workouts. It gives me the nutrients I need. I used to do a lot of other shakes or green smoothies, but when I started taking that daily, that’s when I noticed a difference in my appearance.
ACDC Thunderstruck tops my list.
Life begins outside of the edge of your comfort zone. – Darren Hardy
I plan to continue working towards my fitness goal and to help others towards theirs.
Different things work for different people but after 30 plus years of trying everything under the sun, I can only attest to what worked for me. Join up with a Beachbody coach or accountability group , stick to the exercise program and drink Shakeology. Once I did those 3 things, I got further in my fitness journey in 6 months than I did in 30 years. It makes me wonder what I have been doing all this time.
