The growth in the gluten-free food market is unprecedented. In 2014, the gluten-free market was worth $2.84 billion. It seems this is only the beginning of its growth, and by 2021, the market is expected to be worth $4.89 billion.
Gluten intolerance is a part of life for many and for some people it is imperative that they remove gluten from their diet. However, only 1% of people have actually been diagnosed with a gluten intolerance – other people may believe they are gluten intolerant but it will often go undiagnosed.
But when you consider that up to 30% of people are buying gluten-free products on a regular basis, it is clear that gluten intolerance is only one of the reasons for people going gluten-free. People seem to be doing it for a wide range of reasons including digestive health and weight loss.
